Workplace safety and health for F&B Operations level 2

Course Objectives

The Workplace Safety and Health for Food and Beverage Operations (Level 2) course primarily focuses on identifying workplace hazards and risks, implementing effective control measures to mitigate them, and developing skills and competencies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for workers. The course also covers the relevant legal and regulatory requirements related to workplace safety and health.

All resident food services workers covered under the Food Services PWM are required to attain at least two (2) WSQ training modules aligned to the endorsed Technical Skills & Competencies (TSCs) based on their job role. The Workplace Safety and Health for Food and Beverage Operations module is aligned with the PWM requirements for the Food Services Sector and is suitable for the following job roles:

  • Food/Drink Stall Assistant and Food Services Counter Attendant
  • Kitchen Assistant
  • Cook
  • Senior Cook
  • Waiter
  • Waiter Supervisor

Course Description

LU1: Overview of WSH policies, procedures and management system

  • Describe the overview of the WSH management system and adhere to WSH policy and procedures in accordance to the WSH Act

LU2: Importance of maintaining work safety

  • Explain the importance of a safe work environment and identify non-compliances, unsafe work conditions and practices

LU3: Analysis of workplace tools and equipment

  • Explain the importance of using PPE and safety devices for safe operations and to comply with it at the workplace following organisational WSH policies and control measures

LU4: HACCP and Risk assessments

  • Identify hazards using HACCP principles to mitigate unsafe work practices and conditions

LU5: Safety signs and hazard symbols

  • Distinguish and interpret the types of safety signs and hazard symbols in order to comply with organisational directives and risk control methods

LU6: Conducting compliance inspections and reporting to stakeholders

  • Assist in compliance inspections and communicate associated risks and control measures to stakeholders
