Effective Interviewing

Course Objectives

Adept Academy’s ‘Effective Interviewing’ course will benefit executive/managerial level staff who have interviewing experience but have gaps in their understanding of the subject. This course will allow them to refresh/enhance their skills in this area.

Learners will be taught on the different types of interviews, how to comply with regulations and legislation relating to interview, followed by learning how to prepare and structure interview questions and lastly how to use feedback to improve the organisation’s selection process.

Course Description

LO1: To identify the candidates, and the objectives and types of interviews

  • Types of Interview and how to conduct them?
  • Objectives of an interview

LO2: To relate the legal, regulatory, ethical, and socio-cultural constraints to conducting interviews

  • Conduct Fair Job Interviews/ Workplace discrimination
  • Examples of Non-Discriminatory Interview Questions
  • Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices Guidelines
  • Providing reference checks and the standards of duty of care
  • Restraint of trade clauses in employment contracts, are they enforceable?

LO3: To prepare appropriate interview questions and manage the interview process with candidates

  • Principles of Fair Employment Practices
  • Penalties for Discriminatory Hiring
  • Interview questions to consider asking candidates

LO4: To apply effective questioning and active listening techniques in delivering the interview questions in accordance with interview structures

  • Strategies for Effective Interviewing
  • Skills and characteristics of a great interviewer

LO5: To identify the gaps of interview outcomes and provide inputs for improvement

  • Rules of effective email communication
  • Providing constructive interview feedback to candidates

Minimum Entry Requirements

  • Have an understanding of the organisation’s product and service offering
  • Have an understanding of the organisation’s structure, standard operating procedures and guidelines on a relevant area of work.
  • Be able to listen, read, speak and write English at a proficiency level not lower than the Employability Skills Workforce Skills Qualification Literacy Level 5.
